It’s been a minute since I’ve shared an outfit post with you, and quite frankly I miss them! The last time I shared an outfit was in this post back in the fall. I was always under the impression that I had to plan out the perfect location and basically do a full blown photoshoot if I was going to share what I was wearing. I also feel like I don’t go enough cute places. 🙈

How often have you started to look for a stock photo and then looked at the time and realized that 45 minutes have gone by? I’ve found myself in that exact situation too many times to count. With so many stock photos of woman eating salads and people standing in awkward poses, it’s hard to find exactly what you’re looking for!

Shopping for gifts, sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it. Depending on the person, it can be a hard to think of that perfect present you know they’ll enjoy for years to come. If I can’t think of something fun to buy, I usually think about the persons job and what they could need at work. A suit for the business man, a new stethoscope for a nurse, or a  new bag for the persona who brings their entire life to and from work.

Oh Instagram, how I love thee so. Er…sometimes. Other times Instagram can be biggest pain and frustration. With constant algorithm changes, spam accounts, and people following and then unfollowing, mastering Instagram seems impossible. There are so many articles out there on the “best” ways to grow your account (I’ve written one too), but what may work for one person doesn’t always work for someone else. One method that has stood the test of time, however, is using hashtags.

I know there was that whole shadow ban thing a few months back, but honestly, I haven’t noticed much of an issue recently. I also couldn’t really tell you what the shadow ban was. Everyone was so up in arms about it for a bit and then things settled back down again. Maybe I was one of the lucky ones who managed to dodge the dreaded ban? Either way, I’m a big fan of hashtags.

Utilize More Niche Hashtags

There are countless hashtags for every niche, so you never have to worry about there not being any that fit your photo. One of my favorite features Instagram has introduced recently is the ability to follow hashtags. I initially followed the hashtag #blogger but found that a lot of posts popping up in my feed were from accounts with thousands upon thousands of followers. The bloggers behind the accounts are living these extravagant lives that I can only dream of having one day. Not really what I want to be seeing all the time.

I now follow a few smaller hashtags that have introduced me to some beautiful accounts. Hashtags like #seeingthepretty and #nestandthrive have fewer posts attached to them and I really enjoy seeing the photos in my feed. By using more niche and focused hashtags, as opposed to more general ones, you’re more likely to have people click to view your account and follow you.

Here’s what it looks like to follow hashtags and have the photos show up in your feed.

Switch Up The Hashtags You Use

One thing I have found is that you have to switch up the hashtags you use. I used to (and I mean a few weeks ago 😅) just copy the same list of hashtags from my notes app into the photo description. I noticed after a while that I wasn’t getting much engagement from people outside of those who follow me. That’s when I did a little research and added some new tags to my photo. I got way more likes and gained some new followers from that post.

I think the best “formula” for hashtags is to use a mixture of broad and more focused ones. The broad ones are good for exposure, but so many people use #blogger that your photo will be quickly lost. More focused hashtags don’t have as many people actively searching for them but those are are more engaged. Make sense? Let me just start off this post by saying that I am not an expert in time management or organization. I am working on both of those things and strive to achieve that thing call work life balance that so many people talk about. As a result, you’re probably wondering why you should trust me to tell you how to organize your life or manage your time. I like to think that I have the basics down. That I know enough to share with you and hopefully make some sort of difference in your life. I’m not organized to the point of label makers and hour by hour schedules, but I’m also not a disorganized mess. I’m floating in limbo somewhere between the two, just like every other millennial I know seems to be.
