Raise your hand if you feel like the only time you get to relax is when you lay your head on your pillow.

Millennials are known for being constantly on the move, especially if you’re a #girlboss with an awesome side hustle. However, just because you’re constantly busy doesn’t mean you can’t make investments in yourself. Whether that means taking 20 minutes a day to workout, using a face mask once a week, or even purchasing that jacket you’ve had your eyes on, it’s so important that you invest in yourself!

If you’re unsure of where to start, take a look at the five most important areas of your life. Write them down and then list out items, experiences or things you can do in each category that will improve your life, even if it’s just a little bit.

As I suggested earlier, maybe the only time you get to relax each day is when you crawl in to bed. If that’s the case, why not make it the best experience possible? 

I can’t recommend buying high thread count sheets enough. They’re soft, feel lovely on your skin, and make you feel fancy! If you walk in to any Marshalls or Target and feel 300 count sheets and 1000 count sheets, you’ll feel what I’m talking about.

Even my boyfriend agrees! He’s not one to spend a lot of money on things, but as we’re getting ready to rent our first apartment he agreed that we need to make our bed as comfortable as possible. 

If you go to a store like Marshalls or TJ Maxx you can find 1000 count sheets for a decent price. I believe we found ours for about $50. That’s $50 for countless nights of better sleep.

Your Skin

I am a firm believer in a good skin care routine. I would go so far as to say go see a dermatologist. Even if you think you have perfect skin, a dermatologist will still be able to recommend face washes, toners, and moisturizers that will work with your skin type.

If seeing a dermatologist isn’t quite your jam, try incorporating a serum into your routine! I personally use the Olehenriksen Truth Serum and love it! It has brightened my skin drastically and has given my skin a healthy appearance overall. It’s a little pricey, but skin care is one investment I don’t mind making. 

Your skin is your largest organ and you can’t replace it so be good to it!

Your Chest

I can’t think of a better word for this one other than breasts, and I don’t love that word either, so chest it is! 

Whether you have a small or large chest, a good bra is so important. The right bra can relieve back pain, put the girls in the right place (girls doesn’t sound good either. Can we please come up with a better name?) and make you feel confident!

Head over to True & Co. and take their online fit quiz to learn your proper size! They have tons of bras for women and are known to be really comfortable too. The quiz only takes a minute or two to complete and afterwards they’ll reveal three perfect bras for you!

I was wearing the wrong size for years because I never bothered to get fitted, I simply guessed. I wasn’t drastically wrong, so my correct size didn’t feel life changing, but it’s still nice to know what size I really am. 

Your Mental Health

I didn’t understand the point of meditation for the longest time. I didn’t think it would change anything and was time I could be spending on something else.

Boy was I wrong. 

Two months ago I was experiencing the biggest blogger burnout and general exhaustion I had ever felt. I didn’t write a new post for a month, felt overwhelmed with life and honestly had no clue what to do next. 

Enter Headspace, an incredible meditation app. I don’t know what possessed me to try it but one day I opened up the app store and decided to download the app. 

I went through the couple of free exercises available, and after realizing  was sleeping better than I had in months and genuinely felt more relaxed, I was hooked. $54 to access all of the exercises seemed like a lot, but in hindsight that’s $4.50 a month in exchange for a better state of mind and better sleep. Not bad!

If meditation interests you I can’t recommend Headspace enough. Good mental health is life changing and will make you feel better each and every day.

For Your Future

This one may seem the most boring, but it’s arguably the most important. 

A few years ago my friend told me about how she had her debit card stolen. A large amount of money in her checking account was spent on random items and it took weeks to get the money back. After that experience she stopped keeping large sums of money in her checking account. 

The day after hearing that story I opened a savings account. 

A savings account is for just that, saving money. You don’t withdraw money from a savings account to use on clothes or makeup, you leave it there for emergencies or large expenses. It also can’t be accessed through a debit card like a checking account can so it’s not as easy to spend the money.

Take a look at your paycheck and decide how much money you can set aside each month to put in savings. Some companies will even let you automatically put money in your savings account before you ever see it! Set it, forget it, and before you know it you’ll have a nice emergency fund.

This is good advice! Especially the meditation one. I used to do it daily, but somehow lost the habit this summer. Need to get back into it. Like you say, it really is a gamechanger!
