Labor Day has passed, the white pants are tucked away, and Bath & Body Works has had the apple scented candles out for over a month. You know what that means? It’s finally fall!

love summer. I love the warm days spent on the water with good friends and a drink in hand. Cute sundresses, fresh peaches and all the country music your ears can handle are just a few of the wonderful things about summer.

However I’ve had enough.

I’m ready for brisk mornings, colorful leaves, apple pie and running through haunted houses with friends. I’m also ready to make my bedroom the coziest of places!

Think you need to drop a fortune to make your bedroom cozy? Think again!

There are plenty of little things you can do or buy to amplify your space and make it your favorite room in the house. I even have a way for you to make a headboard for less than $100!

Candles, Candles, Candles

Okay, maybe don’t burn three candles at once in such a small space, but definitely find one you enjoy! Lighting a candle in my room each night is incredibly relaxing and lets my brain know that it’s time to unwind. Also who doesn’t want their room to smell nice?

My favorite candles come from Bath & Body Works but you can find other great options at Target, Marshalls, Anthropologie, and Yankee Candle.

Eight budget friendly ways to make your bedroom cozy for fall

Fairy Lights

Fairy lights aren’t just for Christmas anymore! Adding a string or two to a room can instantly make it feel warmer and more inviting. There are also ways to use them that won’t make your room look like a college dorm room. Think more Urban Outfitters catalog and less cement walls and Twin XL beds.

I personally have them lining my bedroom ceiling and wrapped around my metal bed frame. Those two strands are bright enough to light up my room at night, making overhead lighting unnecessary. Other places you could put them is behind your bed as an accent wall or strung along a bookcase.

Update Your Bedding

This is, in my opinion, one of the best ways to make your bedroom cozy. Good sheets are always a necessity, but flannel sheets in the fall and winter are even better! What’s great about flannel sheets is that the more you wash them, the softer they become. The day I put flannel sheets on my bed is one of the best out of the whole year. Yes, I am a grandma.

Depending on the brand and size of the sheets you buy, they may be one of the pricier things on this list. However they’re still cheaper than buying new furniture or renovations!

Find A Cute Rug

Stepping onto cold wood floors is one of the worst ways to wake up. Rolling out of bed is hard enough, why make the experience worse than it has to be?

Rugs can be as cheap or as expensive as you want to make them. If you’re on a budget, I highly recommend checking out Target, Marshalls or Ikea to find an area rug to complete your space. They’ll have the most options for the least amount of money.

Pile On The Blankets

Is there anything better than cozying up with a fluffy blanket? Add in a good movie and a mug of tea and you have my ideal night.

Keep the blanket at the foot of your bed to add some color to your room and make your bed look more inviting.

The More Pillows The Better

I have 7 pillows on my full size bed and I wish I had room for more. Pillows are great for adding texture, color and warmth to a room for very little cost. I change out my pillows seasonally and love how they freshen up the room.

A great place to find cute throw pillows for cheap is Marshalls, H&M Home, and Target. Can you tell I like Target…?

Add A Headboard to Your Bed

This one requires breaking out your woodworking skills but I promise it’s worth it!

A headboard amplifies any space and can be a great focal point of a bedroom. My boyfriend and I plan on making a headboard soon for our king sized bed. We couldn’t find anything we really loved (or agreed on) and making a headboard costs around $70. Buying a headboard for a king sized bed could cost anywhere from $200 to $1000+!

This is the plan we’re going to follow in case you want to make your own!

Purchase A Mattress Topper

Nothing is worse than waking up with a sore back every morning. Also who wants to climb into a uncomfortable bed every night?

Instead of buying a new mattress, try a mattress topper first. Mattress toppers can be anything from a slightly thicker fitted sheet to an inch of memory foam. I had one on my bed at college and it was a total life saver!

There you have it, eight budget friendly ways to make your room cozy for fall! Now go purchase all the candles, blankets, pillows and rugs your heart and wallet can handle!
