Happy New Year! I hope you had a fantastic night, whether you stayed in or went out. I stayed in, as it was below zero and I spent most of the day curled in a ball with a painful ovarian cyst. Let’s hope that’s not a sign of how things will play out in 2018! Luke was sweet though, he made me tea and we sat in bed and played computer games while I complained about the pain 😅

I try a lot of makeup, some of which is bad, but thankfully a lot of it is good as well. When I thought about how I wanted to wrap things up on my blog, the first thing that came to mind was doing a wrap up of all of the makeup I loved in 2017. After all, this is a beauty and lifestyle blog. My first priority is bringing you posts to inform you about the latest makeup and beauty products.

So, without further ado, let’s get into the products I loved last year!

Top Makeup Picks of 2017

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

This primer does a really nice job of filling in pores and perfecting the skin, creating a base for your foundation. I’ve tried a lot of silicone based primers, and never thought any of them were that great, but this one has changed my mind! The only thing I wish was different about this primer is that it had a mattifying effect. That would take this primer from an A to an A+

NARS Orgasm Blush

I lusted after this blush for SO long, and 2017 is the year I finally bought it! It’s just as beautiful as everyone says it is. The gold shimmer is stunning and is just enough to make your skin look healthy.

MAC Soft & Gentle Highlighter

To go with the NARS blush, I love to use the MAC highlighter in Soft & Gentle. This is the first MAC product I’ve owned, and I like it a lot! It’s beautiful applied as is or wet. It also lasts all day, meaning no worrying about having to touch up your highlight ✨

e.l.f. smudge pot wine not

e.l.f. Smudge Pot – Wine Not

I purchased this little pot in the beginning of 2017, and to be honest I kind of forgot about it. I recently started to use it again, and quickly fell back in love. Wine Not is a stunning sparkly, deep purple shade that looks like it would cost a lot of money. However, this shadow costs less than your morning coffee and will leave you wanting to buy all of the shades available.

My Top Makeup Picks of 2017

Too Faced Natual Love Pallete

When Too Faced announced the launch of this palette back in April (I think?) I stared at the pictures of it for so long. It was the prettiest thing I had seen since Tiffany’s at Christmas time. With a price tag of $59, I wasn’t sure if I could justify buying it, however, sometimes you just have to say “treat yourself”.

All the shadows are beautiful and ones I actually use. With 30 shadows, there are a lot of different looks you can create with this palette. Two of my favorite shades are Honey Pot and Hot & Bothered.

Make Up For Ever Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick

I’ve talked this lipstick to death so I won’t harp on it for too long. The shade 401 is the perfect red, and it just so happens that it’s the perfect formula as well. Long lasting and comfortable! I can’t wait to pick up more shades of this lipstick soon.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick

This is another lipstick I’ve talked about a lot on here, but I couldn’t put together this list without including the shade Crisis from Urban Decay. It’s a nice plum-rose color that’s comfortable and flattering. Enough said!

Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette

Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette – Mauve

Is this not a jaw-dropping palette? 😍 While I got this very recently as a Christmas present, I had to include it in this post. Most of the shadows I own are various shades of brown, copper and gold, so this pink toned palette is a welcome addition to my collection. Huda Beauty shadows are known for their quality, and these ones are no different. They’re incredibly soft and blend like a dream. There are also 3 other color combinations of this 9 shade palette if pinks aren’t your thing.

Fenty Beauty Foundation

I wrote a review of this foundation recently, which you can go and read if you want more details, but this really is the best high-end foundation I’ve used. It’s a soft matte finish, has buildable coverage, and doesn’t make my skin oily. All three things are a win in my book!

Milani Make It Last Setting Spray

Too be honest, I don’t feel the need to spend a lot of money on setting sprays. I use one everyday, meaning I use them up quickly. I can’t justify spending 20+ dollars every month on a single bit of makeup. With that said, the Milani setting spray is $9 and does what I want it to. It makes my makeup last a bit longer and helps everything to sort of melt together. The mist is also very fine, which is exactly what you want in a setting spray!

2017 has come and gone and 2018 is here! Find out what makeup products made my top ten list; featuring Fenty Beauty, Smashbox, Too Faced & More.

I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store, not only in terms of achieving my goals, but also seeing (andtrying) all of the new makeup! Playing with makeup never gets old to me, which is why I love blogging about it so much. I constantly get to share with my readers what makeup I’m loving (or not loving). So, what did you discover in 2017 that you’d consider a top pick? Let me know in the comments!

I’ve seen so many reviews about that Smashbox primer that I think I’ll have to take the plunge and purchase it! Right now I don’t use any primer which makes my foundation look OK but not fantastic – you can still see some of the pores in my nose. I’ve also read the e.l.f primer is a good dupe for the Smashbox one?

Audrey I do that all the time! Forget I purchase makeup and only to find it in a drawer somewhere and then realize omg I have this, I shouldn’t of bought _ this! XD Nice to see an ELF product here though, and very surprising to hear about the FENTY foundation, I really didn’t expect it to be anything great!

I’m totally going to try that Milani setting spray! I’m almost out of my Urban Decay All Nighter and while I like it a lot, I can’t justify that price tag right now while I’m trying to recover from the holidays lol. Do you think the Milani would work well for someone with super oily skin? Or would your recommend something else?
